Mrs. Reigle taught us how to draw the contour lines on a mission. This week on Friday, we had a fabulous vocal concert. All of us sang so wonderfully and dressed in glamorous clothes. Meanwhile in science lab with Mrs. Seager, our class is beginning to learn about static electricity where the electricity "jumps". Lastly, 4th grade RTI finished By the Great Horn Spoon book. It is a great book of fantastic adventures.
This Wednesday the Jog-a-Thon took place and everyone ran as fast as they could. Congratulations to this year’s winners; Matthew, with a final of 19 laps, and Nicky, with a total of 16 laps. Our play audition was this week too. Shyan will be the Barker, Lilly will be Lilly, Yenna will be Luzena, Zach will be Sam, Nicky will be Becky, Elizabeth will be Betsy, Andrew C. will be Marshall, Justin will be Sutter, and Matthew will be Johnny. Congratulations to them too! We also had our field trip on Monday to Irvine Regional Park. We had a great time including a miniature train ride, a covered wagon, a gold panning station! And finally, it was Shyan’s birthday. We all wished him a great one!
Picture day was this week and everyone looked their best. We can't wait to see how they turned out. We also held our student council class rep speeches and elections. Congratulations to our representatives for trimester one, Lilly and Zach! In our digital citizen lesson for this week, we learned about cyberbullying and what to do if it happens to us. We also did a picture walk through the four California regions. Another highlight of the week was when we dissected a flower in science lab. The 100 Mile Club officially started this week. Some people already have 2 miles or more! Take a look at our IRC Pass entries below. Congratulations Elizabeth on being chosen as our winner! Lastly, we want to wish Henry a very happy birthday!
We started off this week with our 100 Mile Club assembly and we can't wait to start running! We can do it! Speaking of running, student council elections were held this week and after watching videos of the students who were running for officer positions, we got to vote for our favorite candidates. Congratulations to all of the fifth and sixth graders who won! Our Digital Citizen lessons started on Edmodo this week with learning how to show respect online. Also, we finished up our research and final drafts on our state symbols (does anyone know what the California state mineral is?) This weekend, Vivian will be celebrating her birthday and we wish her a very happy one!
This week was our first art lesson with Mrs. H, our substitute teacher for Mrs. Reigle. We learned about contour lines while drawing birds. In science lab, we dissected lima beans and Mrs. Seagar used iodine to determine if it was a starch. Mrs. Dunn introduced our first social studies project about state symbols and we started our research. While we were in the computer lab, we were allowed to sign up for Edmodo if we turned in our permission slips. Yesterday we attended an assembly where we learned all about our fall fundraiser and the fun prizes we could earn. Today we had our first fire drill and our class earned three gold nuggets for doing such a great job. Another fun activity we did was create and share our silly team mascots. Lastly, we want to wish Nicky and Rahul a very happy birthday!
In our second week, we have really gotten into the swing of things! We started our math, science, and social studies curriculum. Also, we are well into our first novel, Island of the Blue Dolphins. So much has already happened in the first five chapters! We have even had the opportunity to share our knowledge on our first spelling and reading quizzes! Mrs. Dunn can't wait to see how smart we are!
We had a great first week of school! It was exciting meeting all of our 34 wonderful classmates and new teacher. On Wednesday we got to meet our new science lab teacher, Mrs. Seager, who used to be a fifth grade teacher here at Canyon View. Our STAR behavior implementation day was Thursday. Teachers acted out some examples and non-examples of STAR behavior in different areas of the school. We are so excited to earn STAR tickets! Today we met the music teachers and got to see and hear different kinds of instruments. Fourth grade is going to be a lot of fun!
