Unit A: Quadrilaterals
This unit explores congruence and symmetry, parallel and perpendicular lines, and the differences among some quadrilaterals. In addition, activities in this unit help students to understand what perimeter and area are and how they are measured. A big idea for the unit is that perimeter and area are two different measurements of the same shape and that each has its own kind of measurement unit: linear units for perimeter and square units for area. Students will use what they learn in this unit about area again in Unit 3, where area is used as a graphic model for multi-digit multiplication.
